How to Reach Sikkim

By Air:

At present, there is no airport in Sikkim since it features a rugged landscape. Nonetheless, the 1st airport of the state, Pakyong Airport, was designed to be accomplished in the year 2012, and the distance from the capital is 19 miles or 30 km. It was said that the airport will have the capacity to run ATR airplane. Presently, the Bagdogra Airport near Siliguri, West Bengal is the most proximal functional airport to Sikkim. The distance from Gangtok is approximately 124 km. A regular helicopter service is available which links Bagdogra with Gangtok and it is operated by the Sikkim Helicopter Service. The duration of the journey is about 30 minutes and is available just one time in a day and four tourists can travel on that. The helipad in Gangtok is the sole civilian helipad in the territory.

By Rail:

There is no considerable railway infrastructure in the state. The nearest key railheads are New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri in bordering West Bengal. Nonetheless, the Central Government of India has undertaken the New Sikkim Railway Project for joining the settlement of Rangpo (Sikkim) with Sevoke Road near the boundary of West Bengal.

The track will cover five railway stations and has been planned to assist both financial growth as well as the activities of Indian Army. In the beginning, it was contrived that the project would be finished by the year 2015. However, since 2013, the building work has been facing holdups. Furthermore, the Railways Ministry made some preparations in 2010 for tracks that will join Ranipool with Mirik.

By Road:

National Highway 31 and National Highway 31A join Gangtok with Siliguri. Bus and truck services are available from Sikkim National Transport. Traveler taxi, private buses, and jeeps are frequently run across the entire state, and join it with Siliguri, as well. A division of the highway from Melli joins the western part of the state. In West and South Sikkim, the urban areas enjoy connectivity with the hill stations of Darjeeling and Kalimpong lying in North West Bengal. Sikkim is also joined with Tibet via the Nathu La Pass.
