There are 16 helipads and 17 airstrips in the state. Bhubaneswar houses the Biju Patnaik International Airport, the principal airport of Odisha and it is being made bigger for housing commercial airliners with two aisles. The Government of Orissa in the month of August 2012, declared intentions for building five greenfield airports at Paradip, Rayagada, Angul, Dhamra, as well as Kalinganagar in an endeavor for promoting inter-state and intra-state public air travel. Key cities in the state including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur, Rourkela, Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Balasore enjoy good connectivity with Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Howrah, Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad, Patna, Kanpur, Guwahati, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Varanasi, Bhopal, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Haridwar, Jaipur, and Kochi via direct train services (daily and weekly). The major part of the railways network of the state comes under the legal authority of the East Coast Railway. The head office of the ECR is located in Bhubaneswar and the other parts of the railway network fall under South East Central Railway and South Eastern Railway.
By Roadways and seaports: The transportation network of Orissa also comprises roadways and seaports. Roadways (national and state highways) join Bhubaneshwar with many other parts of the country. A number of highways are being spread out to four lanes.
