Himachal Pradesh is a small state in Northern India. The state is mostly famous for its mountains and lush green landscapes. The province turned into a state of India in the year 1971. In Sanskrit language, Hima refers to snow and Acharya Diwakar Datt Sharma gave its name as Himachal which implies in the lap of the Himalayas. The state of Himachal Pradesh shares its boundaries with Punjab to the west and southwest, Jammu and Kashmir to the north, Uttarakhand and Haryana to the southeast and the autonomous territory of Tibet to the east.
By Rail: There is limited railway network in the state. Narrow gauge tracks connect Shimla and Kangra with Pathankot. A narrow gauge line joins Kalka (in Haryana) with Shimla and other significant parts of India. By Road: There are 19 state highways and eight national highways in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
