Karnataka forms a part of Southwestern India. It is the 8th biggest state in the country in terms of area and ranks ninth in terms of population. This state was established by Kempe Gowda, a regional tribal chief, in the 16th century. The term Karnataka refers to lofty land or an elevated area. Karnataka features an extensive shoreline which is bordered by palm orchards for long distances. The diversity of flora and fauna of this state make it a traveler’s heaven. The state constitutes a considerable portion of the Deccan Plateau and features a rich history.

The state of Karnataka is situated between 11°30’ North and 18°30’ North latitudes and 74° East and 78°30’ East longitudes. The state of Karnataka shares its boundaries with the Laccadive Sea and Arabian Sea to the west, Maharashtra in the north, Goa in the northwest, Tamil Nadu in the southeast, Andhra Pradesh in the east, and Kerala in the southwest.

How to Reach Karnataka

By Rail: The railway network of Karnataka is quite extensive as well. The head offices of the Southwestern Zone of Indian Railways were shifted to Hubli in 2003. Previously, the railway transport system for the state was divided into Western and Southern Zones. The Southwestern Zone takes care of most of the areas of the state and the rest is served by the Southern Railways. The Konkan Railway serves the seashore areas and it was regarded as the most extensive railways venture in the country for 100 years.
