Meghalaya is a state lying in Northeast India. In Sanskrit language, the expression Meghalaya refers to the abode of clouds. The capital of the state is Shillong, which is dubbed as “Scotland of the East”. Shillong is a famous hill station as well. You will find various waterfalls in and around the city. The “abode of the Gods”, Shillong Peak, is the tallest in Meghalaya. The three major tribes living in the state are Garos, Khasis, and Jaintias.

How to Reach Meghalaya

By Air: There is a tiny airport at Umroi, and the distance from the state capital is 35 km. It lies on the Guwahati-Shillong Highway. The tiny area of the airport works as a hindrance for operating big aircrafts. Tiny aircrafts exclusively fly from Agartala (the capital of the bordering state of Tripura) and Kolkata. A new flight service from Indian Airlines has been launched for three days on a weekly basis from Kolkata to Umroi, and the distance from Shillong is around 20 km.
