Jharkhand is a small state in Eastern India. On November 15, 2000, the state of Jharkhand was created by severing a part of Bihar. In terms of area, Jharkhand holds the position of the 15th biggest state in India. The capital of the state is Ranchi and Dumka serves as the sub capital of the state. Jamshedpur is a major industrial hub in the state and Dhanbad is dubbed as the coal capital of the country. The expression Jharkhand stands for “the land of forests”.

The state of Jharkhand lies between 23.35° North latitude and 85.33° East longitude. Jharkhand shares its boundaries with the states of Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh in the west, Bihar in the north, West Bengal in the east and Odisha in the south.
