Assam is a state lying in the northeastern part of India. The capital of the state is Dispur. The state is situated towards the south of the eastern portion of the Himalayan Mountain Range. Assam is made up of the river valleys of the Barak and Brahmaputra together with the North Cachar and Karbi Anglong hills. The state is a territory of verdant valleys, blue mountains, as well as a red river. The state is affluent in its culture and biodiversity.
Geographical location of Assam
The state of Assam is situated between 24°8’ North and 28°2’ North latitudes and 89°42’ East and 96° East longitudes. Assam shares its boundaries with six of the other Seven Sister States and they are Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura. With respect to geography, Assam and the other states join with the other parts of the country thru a thin piece of land in the state of West Bengal which is known as the "Chicken's Neck" or the Siliguri Corridor. The international frontiers of Assam are shared with Bangladesh and Bhutan.
